Look into error reporting for violation of some rlimits. In particular, upon hitting ResourceTotalMemory (RLIMIT_MEMLOCK?). Also research about rlimits on Mac/BSD

RLimits does not properly work on Mac OS X
https://github.com/co-dan/interactive-diagrams/commit/d4bd8f5bbf27715f6ca4525de87b04540a4bdb68 - this fixes most of the rlimits issues
It's not possible or probably very hard to get a proper decent error message
