The plan is to meet at some time around mid-July (because of the GCI trip and GSoC evaluations).

Potential options:

Having a local group (like PyDelhi) arrange a meetup.
DevConf India
PyCon India

Suggestions are welcome.

Ideally we find some other gsoc orgs that have both Indian mentors and students, and we share the efforts of setting it up, and gain some economies of scale.

That's amazing. I'd love to be a part of this, if this is happening again?

Also, We're having regular DevSprints in PyDelhi. The latest one is on 23rd June, 2018. And it happens every 4 weeks. If the community is here in India, how about meeting up in a DevSprint in PyDelhi, India? Also, we are looking for a mentor who could mentor coala in the DevSprint, anyone up for the same? :see_no_evil:
