There is up-for-grabs as well, why should we prefer this over that?
This is a good idea since new contributors sometimes ask for more than one difficulty/newcomer issue and they are to be told to go for a higher difficulty issues. IMO the first-timers-only label makes it explicitly clear that only a first-timer can solve this issue, this might prevent newcomers from asking for assignment to multiple easy issues and encourage them to move on to harder ones.
I proposed recently to decouple our difficulty/newcomer
label from the newcomer-eligibility. We would have a difficulty/trivial
label and another newcomer
label which marks issues to be suitable for newcomers.
first_timers_only
is for people new to open source.
It is very clear.
However I guess a problem we have is that we are not well suited to truly first timers, with all our git rules and such. We are newbie unfriendly, for most definitions of newbie.
We have a niche market: newbies who are take rejection exceedingly well and will RTFM, will appreciate the manual, and are fairly pedantic about following the rules by the second or third attempt. If we dont get the PR merged after a few attempts, we typically loose them.
http://www.firsttimersonly.com - should we rename/relabel/also-label (some of) our newcomer as first_timers_only ? https://mobile.twitter.com/first_tmrs_only
