Status is nothing done yet. I'm trying to finish with the connector services first, then adapt External Import for the new connector services, which is why I haven't started yet. But there are two big things to do:

migrate unit and functional tests to typo3/testing-framework
migrate BE modules JS to AMD modules and see what to do with jQuery, because Datatables is quite central to the modules and requires jQuery

Someone has already proposed to help with JS, so help with the tests would be nice.
