these hybridized usages are in fact fully supported in 2.6 & 2.7; non need for six here unless you want to support Python 2.5

Thanks for the pull request a-detiste. I think we can safely drop Python 2 support at this point.

Yes. I see some usage of Py3~only features, so Py2 is silently broken anyway.
