I think I get it. That's a very nice Idea. Let me get this right:
The Goal is to drag an image (we better call it "guide") into the ad area and the ad area will automatically expand or shrink to the image dimension. But why the 50% alpha as the image is in the Background?
Either as a 50% foreground or a 100% background so I can position pixel perfect the elements on the banner.
It will be great if we can use images as guides (in the background or in the foreground at 50% alpha, think of it like an onion skin) in order to arrange elements pixel perfect. Another advantage of it is that you can pull width and height from the reference image and use it as the banner dimensions. The way I envision it is you just drag and drop the image into the banner ad area. if the image is called bg.jpg or background.jpg (.png, .gif) the image will be fixed background of the ad.
