[Feature Request] Folder Navigation #47

Open almfisch opened 1 year ago

almfisch commented 1 year ago

It would be great to navigate through folders. At the moment I have over 6000 images in 20 folders an alle images are in one very long list, it feels like endless scrolling. It would be great to have for example a sidebar with a folder-tree on the left side and see the images of the selected folder on the right side.

Many regards and thank you for your work Andi

You do have the ability to filter by file_path which is what I've used since I also have many folders indexed. You can also create "bookmarks" for your filters (using the ⭐ in the search bar) so you can quickly filter on certain folders.

Agree with almfish - a folder tree would be wunderbar!

That's not really the same. Besides that, one would have to memorize the path structure and this is not really user friendly. Plus: Filters should be a temporary thing, not a permanent one. At least for me. So, +1 from me for the ability for folder browsing, please.

@Woisek This might not be ideal but please give this a try so you can better describe the gap in functionality.

  1. Pick a picture in "folder_a" and expand it (may need to use the "pop out" feature)
  2. Scroll down to file_path and click on the name of the folder (e.g. folder_a) and choose the left option (include, not exclude)
  3. After the view refreshes click on the ⭐ at the top-right to favorite the folder filter
  4. Click on the :star: at the top left to view your favorite filters

This should get you down to 2 clicks to filter to a specific folder. That is, unless your many folders all have the same name. So after trying that please reply with your feedback and if you still really want a folder browsing feature.

I'm not a dev for this project but I am a dev and I'm just trying to keep down any potential "duplicate" functionality and not having this turn into an uncontrollable mess of features. I really like how slim yet functional the tool currently is.

@MalikKillian Thanks for your suggestions, but like I said, "filters" and "bookmarks" are nothing for structural ordering. They are temporary elements, not for permanent use. Especially "filters". Filters are for , well ... filtering unwanted elements to get those that are wanted. This is something different than sorting and organizing files and folders. The endless scroll itself is nice for showcasing, but not for sorting and/or editing. And I'm happy for you if this spartanic look and functions suits you, but the one does not have to exclude the other. But depending on what breadboard wants to be, it needs more than just to be a slideshow player. Anyway, I've talked to the developer shortly and some changes coming up. We will see where it goes to.

Guys – thanks for looping me in on this.

It is appreciated.

In addition to Microsoft Explorer I currently use Picassa, Lightroom and ACDC for managing images.

(That shows you how old I am!)

For what it’s worth, my personal interest in Breadboard is to use it as follows:

o collections can be made,

o patterns of value can be deduced,

o the best images don’t get buried,

I don’t know if this fits with other people’s user requirements but I can see Breadboard being used to manage photo sets and document scans.

Especially with Img2Img generation I can see BB being incorporated into Design Studio workflows.

Ai is really mixing up the domains of art, photography and digital 3D image generation.

That being the case BB could be developed to become a cross platform Digital Asset Management (DAM) Tool.

Link to Peter Krogh’s website for further ideas about DAM and how he is developing it.

Just some thoughts – not trying to load people up with work.

You are certainly doing some good stuff, that might soon come to the attention of the BIG players – Adobe etc.

Blessings to you!
