I extended a few of the tests to confirm that I didn't break any of the current functionality

Hey there @cdloh! Thanks for putting such excellent tests covering this together-- that made understanding this a ton easier and I really do appreciate it. These changes were merged into main this morning as part of 61a7c86 and will be part of the next release (sometime in the next few days).
