I have the exact same issue. When I open any YouTube short, it starts playing audio in the background, but the video doesn't play.

The only workaround is to switch to the next short and then back again. The issue disappears momentarily without restarting the browser when the 'Improve YouTube!' extension is disabled.

I tried the 'Improve YouTube!' TESTING extension and encountered the same behavior.

I have the exact same issue. When I open any YouTube short, it starts playing audio in the background, but the video doesn't play.

I also had this, but it got fixed in the meantime (no idea who and where fixed it).

When I open a short video in a new tab, the video plays normally for a moment, is overwritten by a freeze frame and only the audio plays. The play button is still there, and the click animation works, but but the video doesn't play. The 'progress' at the bottom of the video is displayed normally, When the audio plays to the end and the progress goes back to the beginning, the video plays normally.

I've experimented with disabling all other extensions, and I'm pretty sure this extension is the cause. Sometimes when I open the short in a new tab or enter the short from the current page, the The video and audio are frozen, and when I click the play button it works.

I didn't find any 'false' in yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.

Same problem. Short autoplays, sound goes but image is frozen. On the top play/pause button doesnt work, but mute volume next to it works. Reloading the page doesnt help, always image frozen, sound goes.

If i scroll to next short and back, everything works.

I'm having this same issue. I notice only 1 error that seems to pop up when the short "reloads" to the freeze frame related to the extension. The below error pops up consistantly twice at the point of the freeze and then doesn't show again without a refresh. If you let the video play and loop it will unfreeze and continue like normal as long as you don't open a new page or refresh the current one.
