Could greasemonkey be the default plugin API? I think javascript can do things 
like ad blocking, spell 
checking and mouse gestures.

Unfortunately, JS isn't really suitable for a plugin API yet. At the very 
least, we have to wait for the WebKit 
guys to feel 64-bit platforms are popular enough to merit SquirrelFish Extreme 
support. (Same reason I 
can't play around with Chromium. I value future-readiness in my apps more than 
having a wide selection of 
them)
