My thoughts about it from the start of this year are at
http://groups.google.com/group/bpbible-devel/browse_thread/thread/e4388f9185fc2d
fd/a8372b01c10fc701?lnk=gst&q=BPBible+window+layout+and+operation.
I list them in full here, though I'm not sure that I'm certain of all of them now:
This email is trying to set down in writing the principles I think the
new BPBible layout should aim for. Comments are welcome. As much as
anything else this email is just to remind me so I can check against
it later.
1. It should have the flexibility of the current layout: windows
should be able to be added, removed, resized, reorganised, and
maximised.
2. It should allow as many windows as the user wants, rather than just
allowing one Bible, one commentary, and one dictionary.
3. Books in the library should be organised by their real type (e.g.
daily devotional, map, ...), rather than their module type
(dictionary, other book, ...). The gospel harmonies should also be
there rather than being in a separate window.
4. (Within reason) Every window should be able to be pulled out as a
separate window or included as a window or part of the same window.
Windows that currently infringe this are (from memory) gospel
harmonies, topic management, and search.
5. Permanent tooltips should be the same as other windows. In
particular, Bible permanent tooltips should look and act like Bible
windows, and should be able to be put into the layout.
6. Verse keyed windows should be able to be linked to the workspace reference.
7. Bible links should probably change the workspace reference, which
would then change all linked windows. If there is no Bible window
open, it should open one with the last used Bible version.
8. Bible windows should support viewing either complete chapters (as
the Bible window is currently) or references (e.g. display exactly
Genesis 5:1 - 4, like permanent tooltips currently do).
9. Layouts should be able to be saved and named, to allow users to
cater to different layout needs. When a new saved layout is loaded, I
think it should contain all the windows organised in the way they
were, but displaying the current reference, entry in dictionary if
any, ...
10. Parallel windows should be able to be saved and opened as new
windows (e.g. open my special parallel of ESV, KJV with Strong's
numbers, and TSK)
11. Windows should have history and back and forward should work as expected.
12. Parallel windows should behave like Bible windows as much as
possible with references, linking to workspace references or not,
etc., and it should be possible to add new versions to an existing
Bible or commentary window rather than having to open a special
"parallel" window.
13. Commentaries should be able to be in a parallel view as well as Bibles.
