Clean files with dots previous to the extension #1462

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create a filename with dots before the extension (e.g., MyDocument_v1.0.tex).
2. Compile the document with PDFLaTeX.
3. Apply the "clean" command.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Clean all auxiliary files, staying only the .tex and .pdf files.
However, the "clean" command does not work due to the dot in the name.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I use the 4.4.1 version with Windows 8.1 Professional x64.

Please provide any additional information below.
One of the format used to identify versions in files is to put the version info
in the name. Then, if I want to use this technique, I cannot delete the
intermediate files with the "clean" command.
