Reach out to Zoom and Panopto once we have a clearer picture of what this app will be/look like/do and see if Zoom or Panopto would like to partner on building it and/or be the exclusive go-to for video conferencing for it.

1 hour meeting with a representative from Zoom, Matt Lakajev. He gave me some information we could use for additional research into using Zoom for student/tutor services.

He wasnt a developer so he couldnt give any insight into the process of building it out, but he provided me with two resources: The Zoom Medium Developer Blog and the Zoom App Marketplace.

The contact at Zoom, Matt, advised that it would be best that we comb through the marketplace for an application (or applications) that would suit our needs, and we can use it to build our services. In order to leverage the applications in the marketplace, we would need multiple licenses, which would mean getting a Pro account with Zoom (about $15/month). If we have additional questions and need to speak with someone, we can use the blog to connect with other people in the Zoom community that may have encountered similar problems.

To sum it up, wasn't really a solution, but rather referencing resources we could use. I brought up the idea of having a recording or transcript of the conference meeting between two users and he mentioned that Zoom has a cloud recording transcription service that can be leveraged to send to both students and tutors in case they need to reference any material during the conference. I thought it was a great idea and something we should consider when building out the application.

We discussed rolling a more unique, custom solution that would involve "whitelabeling" other applications in use, but that's when pricing started coming into talks. He mentioned, if we had a sizeable budget to work off of, he can refer me/us to someone in Zoom's organization that would be more equipped to handle a custom solution with a big budget. I mentioned our estimated number of users that would need access to the program and he said that it would be good to discuss with the head of the project (Dan or Amanda, in this case) if we need something beyond what the marketplace applications can provide.

Some follow-ups would be:

Will be doing more research into the Marketplace this week.

Forgot to mention: Reached out to Panopto before Zoom, and Panopto declined my request, as they felt that they would not be able to accommodate our request. The Panopto representative recommended Zoom.

Web Native SDK for Zoom. Has the features that we need for p2p video chat and lets us hook into the Zoom API.

Cons (which are fairly major):

Looking into open sourced options as an alternative.
