[IDEA] Make a tweet bot that uses IATI Canary output #9

IATI Canary exists (see: #2). But users need to sign up by email in order to follow a specified publisher’s data.

It would be cool to do general announcements of broken datasets, e.g. on twitter. This would make these dataset issues a bit more visible, as well as raise the profile of IATI Canary a bit, so that more people sign up.

This is the sort of thing: https://twitter.com/iaticanary/status/1167027305644023809

Would be cool if there was a list of hashtags for all the publishers to IATI Canary could @them into the tweet automatically

Yes – that would be awesome.

Oh that makes me think – the tweets should really include #IATI!

I am wondering if there might be a way e.g. by pulling the website from the registry (from the contact email if needed), and then searching twitter for that, or option B, going to that website, and seeing if there is a twitter widget on the page.

Cool idea re. finding twitter handles on linked websites.

I have a feeling there’s an issue with bots that tweet @ users "unsolicited" (i.e. users that don’t follow). I think you can get blocked for that, since it is potentially spammy.

I think that as long as IATI Canary is not 'trending'!! then it should be ok: https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/twitter-automation
