the behavior i noticed: refreshing the DB made 1 event item disappear for about 1 second. so, indeed, the db is dropped and then repopulated, however ithe events and event items for a 180 day period only take a few seconds. i guess the recommended action would be to refresh once, perhaps late at night.

also, we should have a better 404.

1) Make a 'create better 404 page' issue, and 2) add a page describing how to set up a nightly refresh in heroku on the wiki and call this issue closed?
