I'm typically in favor of working in the open. However, since the value and purpose in an alumni organization is in part its exclusive nature, it seems odd to me to plan social events on a public github repository. If people feel strongly the other way, I'm open to entertain arguments for keeping it open. But I think people may be more willing to participate in a private space (especially since, for many of us, GitHub is tied to our public, professional personas)
