Work visa question #3

Open milafrerichs opened 11 years ago

milafrerichs commented 11 years ago

First of all: love this idea!!

Now to the topic: I'm a European and currently do not have a work visa for the US. Is there a way to get one for the 11-month fellowship? And which kind of visa do I need. Does anybody has more information? Would love to apply for a fellowship.

Thanks in advance.

Love the enthusiasm!

For CfA fellowship you need to have the legal right to work in the USA. But there is great news: we are working with several groups around the world in supporting efforts like CfA in other countries: http://codeforamerica.org/2013/05/23/cfas-first-international-partnerships/

thanks for the reply... I've read about the international partnerships and if there is no way I can apply for the CfA fellowship I will apply for one of the international ones.

Hi CfA! Thanks for 2014 opportunities. I'm Indonesian urbanist, and open-data enthusiast without any IT background :). Should I prepare for all visa documents before applying? Thanks.

Hi @elisa3da, we can't provide visas for international partners as previously stated, but if you are already able to work in the US, you'll provide those documents to our HR dept if you progress to the finalist stage. If you are not already able to work in the US, please do connect with our international programs: www.codeforamerica.org/international.

Hi,

Thanks for your kind email. The problem is Indonesia is not part of your international program.

I've enrolled to other fellowship in US in 2013, The fellowship name is Eisenhower Fellowship. I have a visa for US trip, as part of my previous fellowship. And it's a J1 visa. Under this visa requirement, I able to receive money from that fellowship. Is this the same visa that you're required?

Hi Elisa, as long as you have a visa or level of clearance that will allow you to work at Code for America full time in the states from January to November, you're good to go. I'm not an expert on visas but it sounds like you'll be able to work in the states during that time.
