We've fixed the mixpanel funnel so that the completion rate is more or less on par with the numbers dashboard. Numbers are lower in mixpanel and our hypothesis is that this is due to the way mixpanel handles user sessions and any CBOs that complete more than 1 application in one day will only count as one funnel completion.
Since we realized people are actually dropping off, I also included in the funnel every page that applicants must hit (unless they do a minimal application) to see exactly where people are dropping off.
A couple of interesting observations from this (note: 1% = ~10 people / month):
86% of people who are likely/maybe eligible continue to start an application.
The percentage of people who start an application who finish is 61%.
15% of people who start an application don't make it past the first page. We probably can't retain all of these people because some most likely realize they don't want to make the commitment. However, if we give people a heads up about how long we expect this to take, it might ease some people's fears.
8% of people drop off through the address section. Perhaps this is due to people who don't have a stable home and don't know the correct answer?
6% drop off on the phone number page. It's possible there are people who don't have a phone number who can't move on because phone number is required. We should make phone numbers optional (CBOs want this anyway)
5% of people drop off through household size and additional household member pages. This is understandable since each additional household member a significant effort.
3% drop off on the expenses page. This can be a confusion question - maybe there's more we can do to encourage people to estimate vs drop off?
3% also drop off on the income pages probably for the same reason as the expenses page.
4% drop off on the legal stuff page. This is scary and probably causes some people to drop off. Is there more we can do to ease their fears?
All the other pages have an insignificant drop off rate.
