We need to conduct in person usability testing to complement the SMS & phone interviews we've been conducting for Balance (#166).

This includes:

This is rad. Feel free to assign me things on Adwords or IRL recruitment. I can also stand outside HSA or see if Leo/Tiana would want to recruit and test with us.

Will do. Let's definitely approach Leo/Tiana about recruiting and standing outside. Maybe next Monday? I actually think recruiting a little closer to the date—the week of, for example—makes sense.

Worth considering having (at least some of) the user testing conversations on the street or closer to where you find users. Code for America's office space may be (okay, is) alienating for some people. It remains to be seen whether that hazard outweighs the potential comfort from added privacy as compared to on-site user testing.

Another advantage of doing the user testing at the same time that you meet someone, if feasible: it also reduces the number of people you have to recruit, because you don't have to anticipate that a certain percentage of them won't actually show up.

Absolutely. In the medium term, we will be looking at more neutral sites like libraries. It may be worth a quick investigation of that option now, though my hunch is that the turnaround will be took quick for them. Nonetheless, I'm going to add it as a to-do on this issues.

We're going to hold our first iteration of in-person user testing between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, November 15th at the San Francisco Central Library (at Civic Center). I'll be doing an orientation with staff on Monday morning, and we will begin online recruitment ASAP.

If you'd like another body on this day, count me in. Also, I speak Spanish if we're hoping to get some Spanish speaking testers.

alanjosephwilliams commented 10 years ago

@gabbyjones that would be most excellent, thank you! I'm counting you in.

We may target English-speakers specifically, but it would undoubtedly be helpful to have a Spanish-speaker on hand. Stay tuned here for more details.

This meta-issue is now dated. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the user interviews this Saturday!
