Why would people want to sign up? #262

I cannot tell why one would want to sign up. What does signing up give you? It seems like anyone can provide data right now, and there is nothing explaining why one might want to sign up.

This was a good point. Going to close this since it is being resolved by the design in #294 that is going to be implemented.
