3 years ago I came up with a few interview questions that I'm planning on asking some of my friends who might use a tool like this:
- How do you like to stay civically active at the local level?
- What local issues do you care about? Which issues do you follow closely?
- How do you stay up to date about local issues?
- How do you communicate with others about local issues?
- When have you felt "heard" by your local government? When have you felt "unheard"?
- How knowledgeable would you say you are about how local government works?
- Have you ever attended/watched town meeting/city council/board of selectmen/etc meetings?
- How well do you know your local politicians? Have you ever met, written, called, DMed, commented, liked, followed?
- How knowledgeable would you say you are about how the state legislature works?
- How knowledgeable would you say you are about bills currently being considered by the state?
- Have you ever attended/watched the state legislature in session?
- What parts of the government do you care about learning more about?
Please feel free to offer feedback or suggest additional questions.
User personas are an abstraction of the groups of people who we would expect to use a tool like this. I think it would be helpful to make concrete a list of these personas as a first design step to prioritize our features. Groups like admin (us), law students, student groups, community groups, informed citizens, etc — and their expected needs and goals in using a tool like this. Thoughts?
