Open analytics data for okc.gov #4

Open mkchandler opened 8 years ago

mkchandler commented 8 years ago

Description

At a recent meeting with the city Zach Nash (Creative Manager for the city) proposed opening up the analytics for okc.gov. He would like our assistance to see if this is feasible and if we could put together a prototype. I would like to put up an open analytics dashboard for our sites (public site, open budget okc).

I've forked the analytics dashboard for adapting it for our use as a prototype: https://github.com/codeforokc/analytics.codeforokc.org

@mkchandler can you elaborate on what Zach means by "opening up the analytics for okc.gov"?

mkchandler commented 8 years ago

@energydev If you check out the links listed above, they are some examples of essentially making Google Analytics data for sites open to the public. Our goal with this project is to put up a proof of concept using our own Code for OKC Google Analytics data. We got most of this running (locally) during CodeAcross last weekend, and will work on getting it hosted soon.

After that, Zach is going to work with the city devs to see if they can get it up and running (which we could help with), or we could host it and plug in the okc.gov Google Analytics data. That has yet to be decided/fully discussed at this point.

@mkchandler great explanation. Thanks!

My plan is to revive some of this work after we launch Open Budget OKC.
