Public Art Finder #2

A web or mobile app for finding and learning about public art in San Jose.

Here's the project website for Public Art PDX, a public art app for Portland: http://publicartpdx.com/

Here's some Github code from a project that's several years old: https://github.com/codeforamerica/public_art_finder

Here's a PDF brochure map of public art in downtown San Jose, from the City of San Jose's Office of Cultural Affairs: http://www.sanjoseca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/26100

Code for San Jose members such as Michelle Thong and Peter Allen could probably get access to a table listing all of the City's public art works and locations.

Hi, I'm a new member that's in San Jose for the summer. I'm interested in this project and am willing to start a small prototype (I'm not sure if my skills are advanced enough for this full-scale, I'm also not familiar with couchbase at all)

That's great! Go for it!

@mthong, @EngineerEmily, a follow-up regarding the data for the public art. I can enter the data on the PDF into a Parse or Fusion Table service, but is there a digital table listing? Thanks!

A neat art map provided by the city of San Jose. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=zUNwQlX3zxsE.kJfu4xaHHW6I

What if we leveraged existing data from other sources? Like a Pokemon Go pokestop api; many of those stops contain names and descriptions of public art/points of interest. Not a perfect source, but that's the idea. Could eventually crowdsource the data as well
