Recently, the city of San Jose turned on traffic metering lights for I-680 [1] that began to help congestion during traffic-heavy hours. Personally, I saw issues for the first few weeks where congestion spilled out onto Berryessa/Capitol for the I-680.
Solution:
Have data available that expose existence of traffic metering lights on specific freeway entrances. Services and apps can use this data to expose availability and performance of the metering lights.
Benefits:
Drivers can work with or around metering lights to have a higher efficiency commute.
Improve congestion and measure the efficiency of metering lights.
Next Step:
Find out if traffic metering lights data for the City of San Jose exists and in what form.
Figure out the current status of the current program and their guidance.
