this is added to test-kitchen base transport in https://github.com/test-kitchen/test-kitchen/pull/1306

i havent had a chance yet to actually run this against some nodes. ill give it a try soon

Until such time as the core API solidifies, I don't think I'll want to merge this. Happy to leave it open for others to find though.
