Q: what is the ROM ICE chip on page 1 of the service manual

ICE means In circuit emulator, it is for the JTAG connector for the CPU (SH3). Cf. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-circuit_emulator Regarding the JTAG for the CPU, you could use the E10A-USB box but I didnt find it with a low price :(. Maybe we can found equivalents with a better price.

interesting. What possibilities does the JTAG offer? Monitoring/extracting/injecting code?
