codetaylor / pyrotech-1.12

An early game mod with new primitive devices, combustion machines, smelting mechanics, storage options, tools, torches, advancements, and absolutely zero GUIs -- with exception to the substantially complete, mostly illustrated, and charred guidebook.

Potter's Wheel & Pottery #361

A potter's wheel is a device that is used to shape clay into certain shapes, like cups, bowls, pots, and molds. I believe the potter's wheel could function as a dynamic workbench, starting with a piece of clay and selecting the recipe you want to make from a menu and then having to add on layer by layer pieces of clay until you get the finished product. This process I believe should utilize hunger, as there is effort required in molding and spinning the wheel, and use up meaningful quantities of clay per layer (4-5), as clay is plentiful in the world.

In addition, if anything like this is possible, it would be amazing to have the ability to make custom pottery, through selecting a recipe through a menu and then molding your own pots/decorations from a set of minimum dimensions. I'd also implement a blueprint system to allow for the saving and sharing of different unique designs. Think of Chisels and Bits on a much smaller scale.

Clay objects would have to be dried, either by sitting them out in the sun for days or by putting them in a pit kiln. In order to offset the difficulty of making a piece of pottery, I'd suggest the failure rate be 0%, because having to start all over after spending time and resources would be quite frustrating. Once dried, clay molds could be dyed, but cannot be edited further on the potter's wheel.

Finished clay pots would function alongside or replace the crates and shelves storage in place now, serving as primitive chests, able to be opened, but having limited storage. In my opinion, the storage space within pots should be 12-18 slots, as the 9 slots allotted for crates and shelves is fine, but the difficulty in crafting pots should warrant a higher storage space.

Crucibles and Molds are more of an expansion of the metallurgy system. Firstly, a crucible is created on a potter's wheel, and then fired, then iron nuggets are extracted from iron blooms, and these nuggets could then be melted in a crucible mounted over a campfire, and then poured using tongs into a tool mold, which is then left to cool, and the tool head is mounted to a stick to create the finished tool. Although I'm not sure how this could function with modded weapons, like those from Spartan Weaponry or Ice and Fire. This system would only apply to tools, and the creation of ingots, and although I would like to elaborate on the creation of armors, this suggestion is as long and likely confusedly worded as is.

I'm not the best with words, but this video of a similar mechanic(s) in a different game should provide a basic idea of what I mean. https://youtu.be/sAx5JxFjWyw
