codetaylor / pyrotech-1.12

An early game mod with new primitive devices, combustion machines, smelting mechanics, storage options, tools, torches, advancements, and absolutely zero GUIs -- with exception to the substantially complete, mostly illustrated, and charred guidebook.

An easier way to get copper #363

Copper was used with tin well before iron, yet, in this mod, you need a bloomery to get both.

What I was thinking is that instead, you add a way to melt down copper akin to how the Sumerians purportedly did it. Which was to dig shallow pits, use charcoal as fuel, and then bank over the 'furnace' with clay with an opening. My source also mentions the hole was directed to the prevailing wind, but that might be a bit much.

So, yeah, basically something akin to the pit kiln, but instead of a wood top and the use of straw, it's a clay top with charcoal, and the copper is inside. How you'd get it into nuggets, I dunno, I haven't looked that up yet.
