Locking solutions of a kata in a language I have not yet completed #2219

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Not sure if feature request or bug report. When you complete a kata, you can see the solutions in the language you completed it with. But you can also see solutions in languages you haven't completed the kata in by clicking on the language selection dropdown. This isn't a problem by itself but sadly, seeing the solutions, even for a brief instant, prevents us from gaining progress in this second language. So when I want to complete a kata in several languages, I have to remember that operations are not commutative (Train again • Change language != Change language • Train again) in order to not lose cool kids points.

I'd like to have the solutions locked, as always.

But the solutions should already be locked in other languages unless you're a contributor. Did you translate the kata previously or approved a translation (which, as far as I know, still can made you a contributor because of a bug)? The only thing you can normally see in other languages is translations.

Hmm, I tried it again and you're right, it's locked.

It happened on https://www.codewars.com/kata/54de279df565808f8b00126a/solutions/python, a problem where I got some very weird problems and raised an issue, so maybe there is a correlation.

I didn't translate or approve the translation but I clicked on "Edit" to see what were the weird test cases that caused the issue. Though if I remember correctly, that was after solving it in other languages and noticing that my percentage didn't go up. (edit: I'm sure about it now, looking at my browser history)

"EDIT KATA", you mean? Then you entered the edit panel. ;)

And as I said, it was after solving the problems so except if codewars is equipped with an omnipotent AI to detect these shenanigans, it shouldn't really matter.

yes, that IS the edit panel. ;o

(but yeah, some warning should be given before actually entering the edit panel... I discarded the IMMORTAL thing because of this kind of mistake... :/ )

I'll be honest I have no clue what you are trying to say. Yes, I arrived on the Edit Panel, by clicking on "Edit", not on "Edit Kata".

this cannot happen if you didn't "fofreited" the language one way or another. I mean, if you're talking about:

  1. I'm in the solutions page on the language I completed
  2. I change the language to land on one I didn't completed the kata in
  3. I see the solutions there too

you have to have forfeited the language to see those solutions. Otherwise you see the "unlock/forfeit?" button instead.

So, question is: how do you "forfeit"

foot note: * you "supposedly" forfeited all languages... There are some glitches from time to time about this and it's pretty hard to track what happens when (ex: one time, I completed a kata in beta. Approved it, didn't get honor, tried the solution of the author in another language,, ... and got honor from that... xo I still don't know what happened there. I guess I actually got the original points I was supposed to have before, and they were "somehow" blocked "somewhere" and the new completion "unblocked" "something"...)

Alright we're on the same page. I'll retrace my steps.

  1. Tried to solve the problem in Python and encountered some weird tests (13000 tests, that was insane)
  2. Raised an issue on codewars about it
  3. Finished solving the problem (pretty sure I got the honor but can't confirm)
  4. Realised that a 4 kyu regex kata was an easy win to get progress in all languages
  5. Switched to Javascript/C++/C# (from the solutions page) and solved the problem. Then realised that I didn't get any progress.
  6. Switched to Elixir/Go/Java... (from the training page) and solved the problem. This time I saw "You passed 7 kyu" and my endorphins went up.
  7. Tried again to switch from the solutions page for Julia, and once again got no point for that.
  8. Tried to investigate the weird tests on the Python version (unrelated and shouldn't have changed much at this point)
  9. Raised the issue on Github.

So I guess raising an issue on codewars unblocks the solutions but doesn't automatically forfeit until you see the solutions.
