Reducing kata authors' negative feedback/feelings during beta process #2350

Open Blind4Basics opened 3 years ago

Blind4Basics commented 3 years ago

Context:

During beta process, votes are modifying author's honor, often heavily when top power users are voting (x4 factor).

For authors who are "green", this means creating a kata == losing honor in 80-90% of the cases. The beta process is already rather harsh so this increases the frustration even more on the author's side, I believe.

Suggestion:

Delay the applications of the votes to the author's honor until the kata gets approved.

corollary: maybe remove the honor awarded at kata creation time (5 points or so, iirc), to keep the behaviours consistent.

Maybe I forgot something else... Ideas?

I think, that "first things first" the minimum honor requirement should be raised for new authors. In this way, authors will be obliged to solve more katas before submitting their own. Thus, they will get understanding of what is good, and what is not.

Secondly, a link to a wiki should be updated and this link should be shown in bold in the kata creation page. Maybe it would be better to make user check a checkbox, that he has read a guideline.

Only after this, I suppose, it is viable to delay the application of votes.

As a note, some "not so green" authors completely disregard common sense and thoughtfully reading issues, no matter how many times and how politely they were asked to do so: https://www.codewars.com/kata/60646834c8c39c004284a12d/discuss/python
