Can we retract unread comment notifications when the target is deleted? #1274

If you get pinged in a comment, or a thread you're following gets a new comment, you'll get a notification. If the comment is deleted before you read the notification, you still see the notification, click on it, and find...nothing. Are we able to retract unread notifications in this case? I don't think we want to retract ones that have been read; that feels too much like editing history and could cause confusion. But if you haven't read it yet, can we avoid bothering you with it?

I'm proposing this specifically for comments, which are meant to be more lightweight, and not for edits or new answers to your questions. I think there are arguments to be made for letting people know that a post was edited before it was deleted, or that you got an answer but then it was deleted. I don't know which way we should go on those, but comments feel like something we could address.
