F-Droid inclusion #804

I've opened F-Droid inclusion issue: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/rfp/issues/839

Could you clarify the license. And fact that "you are not against and support the inclusion".

IzzySoft commented 5 years ago

According to my library scan, there are a few issues with that: the app would at least need a foss flavor that comes without Fabric, Crashlytics and GMS.

Any chance for that, @codinguser? Are you still maintaining this project?

This would also allow anybody with merge permissions to publish new versions. Hopefully this would be beneficial to sharing signing keys and would allow this project to move on.

@codinguser any comment? IMHO the 3 libraries I've mentioned above should be removed anyway. I personally wouldn't trust my finances to an app that comes with trackers. All 3 are proprietary, so you really cannot vouch they won't do "something scary". Remember: every module you include with your app has access to everything your app has access to, can see everything the app sees and, given the Internet permission, can upload its findings anywhere. I don't claim bad intentions on anyone here; often enough such things happened "by accident".

So can we rise the priority a bit, please, and make the GNU look happy? Currently it looks a bit weird. And as there was no commit for about a year now (and no response to this issue), does that mean this project is no longer maintained? I hope not.

I had been a long time user of GnuCash, but ended up changing my workflow sometime after reading #435 years ago and recently had the itch to see whether anything had changed.

Thank you @IzzySoft and everyone else in this thread for continuing to check back and see whether there will be a Libre respecting option for such an important, and explicitly named, project.

@codinguser any response would be great. Whether that is creating some text content reiterating the current stance, publicly pointing towards a solution like #500 , or putting together a rough roadmap to follow if you would accept assistance maintaining an acceptable branch.

Thanks for the continued effort, it's pretty great to be able to point towards such a fleshed out FLOSS alternative.

Unfortunately, it looks like this issue is not being addressed. Taking a look at the development branch, I see it still uses Crashlytics and GMS – and no FOSS build flavor to skip those. So v2.4.1 (which seems to be in preparation) again won't make it to F-Droid. Sad.

Any news?

Checking back on this thread after noticing some signs of life in the repo.

However, real progress appears to be occurring in the @slak44 and @EspressoAddicted forks.

Perhaps one of them will see this conversation and make the change which would allow re-inclusion into F-Droid...

My turn to bump this.... My wife was looking for applications that would be useful for tracking her small business expenses, and I came back to Gnucash - but nothing on the mobile phone in F-Droid.

For now we'll use "My Expenses" and import it into Gnucash on the PC.
