Ligatures are fine, but it would be even cooler if we can have full Unicode support with:

Letter modifiers (accents, diacritics, etc.)
Multi-code and ZWJ-based emojis
(God forbid) Zalgo stuff

Right now it looks like a lot of work, involving changing the st's buffer structure and buffer navigation logic. But still doable.

Cons:

Might break compatibility with most, if not all, other patches.
