RFC: What words should we describe creators/backers? #3

The questions in my head right now are:

  1. Are there specific words that we shouldn't use (i.e. donors seems like it would restrict to non profits?)
  2. Are there specific words that are more aligned with our "brand" guide (Optimistic, upbeat, independent, community focused)
  3. Are there words that we're more excited about than others?

"Nourish": nourish, feed, sustain, succor

"Party": host, partyhost guest, partyguest, partygoer, attendee toast, cheer, thank, celebrate, contribute, chip in paywalled digital assets are "party favors"

We need MVP/default terms, but I'm wondering -- is there value in making this modifiable (through i18n APIs or something else) as an instance-level preference? Obviously not MVP, but it might be an opportunity to let creators/instance maintainers pick language that was in line with their brand.

@bhaibel - I would expect that as the platform develops more customizability around theming and branding will emerge. For now, I want to focus on what exactly we want from our instance.

That said, I could get behind a working agreement that all words are i18n'd instead of hardcoded, thoughts?

bhaibel commented 6 years ago

Yeah, I'd very much like that working agreement. Makes things easier if we wind up having non-programmers do copywriting/copyediting, too.

We seem to have converged around using plain language like "creator" and "supporter" internally. Closing this RFC, not to close discussion, but to reflect that we have a working consensus & that if we want to change that consensus we should probably open a new RFC.
