I am reviewing commits to find when was version 2.x was released so I can use that version as a dependency.

See file NEWS in top level Coin3D/coin directory. It lists the version numbers and the release dates. So you still have to figure out the commit ids for the releases :(

I'm closing this issue for now as there has been no activity for a while and the answer to your issue has been already provided. Feel free to reopen the issue if you still have problems to figure out the release dates.
