I forgot to mention, you need to delete the files first, and commit those deletions before the .gitignore will take place. A small one line command find
command is fine here: find . -name .DS_Store -type f -delete
It's a good idea to add in the
npm
default recommendations to.gitignore
.Most of the recommendations are good and will ignore things put in by your IDE, test environments, and other secrets related files. Note also the trailing slash on
node_modules/
- that will make sure if you have the folder nested (either by accident) or embedded projects, will ignore all that cache.Heres an example for
