Blink Support - Deactivated Account #22

Closed swadhwani51 closed 3 years ago

swadhwani51 commented 3 years ago

Not really an issue but not sure where to post. Blink support disabled my account, contacted me to disable integration with homebridge since it violates their end user licensing agreement. They wouldnt activate my account until it was disabled.

Just FYI...others may receive the same.

Any reason why you might have been targeted? A lot of use recently maybe?

vdrover commented 3 years ago

@swadhwani51 See #15 .

swadhwani51 commented 3 years ago

Not that i am aware of. They just told me they were doing random audits.

Thanks. Going to take a look and see if it resolves the issue. Really enjoyed having it in Homekit.

@swadhwani51 my account was also disabled approx 3 days after installing this plugin. How did you get support to reactivate your account they simply do not respond to my ticket. There needs to be a warning about this risk in the readme for this module at a minimum. I’ve lost use and access of my 3 camera system for over 2 weeks now.

swadhwani51 commented 3 years ago

They emailed me and said whatever I did I need to disable it and then let them know. Support persons name was Tori but she also had a generic email which looked like a general mailbox

Ok thanks for quick response. Unfortunately I have not been extended the same courtesy by blink. There was never an attempt to warn or email about the possibility in advance or after the fact. Even the support ticket system doesn’t send an ticket number.

I did a bunch of packet inspections of the app and changed the fingerprinting to mirror exactly the behaviour of the app. There is a little bit more to do, but generally we should be a lot harder to distinguish this app. It's a bit cat and mouse. I've reached out to Lab126 to see if we can get official blessing.

Really impressed. TY!

Thank you so much for doing this! I really want to start using your plugin again.

ratsoid commented 3 years ago

FYI, I have re-enabled the plugin in the same day that Colin pushed the update and so far so good

swadhwani51 commented 3 years ago

Just enabled with the new code and is working great. Thank you. Where can i buy you a coffee or donate to your work?

Also - its working without the 2FA code? Is that right or should i have gotten the code from blink?

If you have 2FA, you'll get an email. Some of the APIs will work on first login - but only for a while. I suspect this is a bug in Blink's design. Once you get the 2FA pin verification, just update the settings and restart.

This is a labour of love right now and I'm a big believer in paying things forward. If you like the work, make a donation to your local food bank, Girls Who Code, or other STEM program that you like. IF you do this, send me a note, and I'll add you to the list of supporters. :)

colinbendell commented 3 years ago

closing for now. keeping below the radar is going to be a perennial problem, and we'll just have to keep bumping the app version and keeping the fingerprinting as close as possible to the behavior of the real app.
