Add helper functions to bibtool #7

Despite this pool request having many commits, I ended up reverting most of them and incorporated the desired things by creating a new custom view for the bibliogrpahy folder (in a new extension). Also some of the things have been merged in the upstream repo already since my fork.

This pull requests thus adds only helper functions to the bibliography_tool which I need in my view.
