Is this needed because you can limit which type of contents you can relate in nitf?
Anyways, in the first one, all you do is click on the item you want to relate; in nitf, you need to drag and drop it, and there's simply no written or visual indication that this is the way to choose anything. If you click on an item you're redirected to the related item. This behavior is confusing, specially when all other content types are the opposite.
