Icomera provide Wifi services to a lot of UK public transport services - including the train I get to/from work. For an unknown reason, they have started blocking access to neverssl.com. It is both puzzling and annoying - because it is train Wifi is a really good use case for neverssl.com.

I hope you don't mind me using this Github issue to track the progress with getting this sorted out.

Response from opendnsinquiry@icomera.com:

domain-block@opendns.com,

Thanks for the enquiry, unfortunately the website you wish to access is blocked due to the fair usage policy.

Why do we have a Fair Use Policy? At peak times, a lot of customers use the shared network bandwidth at any one time.

A very small number of our customers use the wireless internet service inappropriately, for example when sending or downloading very large files, or using 'peer to peer' and file sharing software (which may be sending and receiving video and other large files constantly). This means that service quality for all users is affected, making it slower for everyone to access the internet or send and receive emails, especially at peak times.

Unfortunately the website you are attempting to reach uses a lot of data we therefore cannot allow any of these services to be accessed.

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards, Icomera

I suspect that this is an automated email.

I managed to contact Icomera via a friend of a friend.

I checked this morning and neverssl.com has been unblocked.

Yes, looked into this and had it unblocked across our estate. We use a combination of our own algorithms and Cisco's OpenDNS platform in order to police and keep the services at a safe family content level. Unfortunately this is further complicated by our customers (Train and Bus operators) requests and the fact that OpenDNS is autonomous in its filtering to keep up with the ever changing landscape. For whatever reason it perceived the site as dangerous and this could happen again.
