To place items on the board we need to click one of these buttons and then click on the board, It is even worse when we have to open up the button selection to see more buttons then click then close. Increasing the clicks and making it more confusing.
The map should be directly interactable. If a player wants to place a settlement they should be able to do it directly by clicking the map. Note that there will be a lot of issues to be considered, new players, old players, mobile, multiple clicks, accidental clicks, knowing what to click, UI showing what can be done and can not be done, etc..
