Land use sections revisions and manufacturing/industry section #287

Hi @mdsimpson42 and @matkoniecz , @MKIM1008 and I are working on a revised land use section and a GB Manufacturing and SME map. Mike we're wanting to replace the NLUD categories with SIC (Standard Industrial Classifications) from ONS as our next job but let's chat tues.

This will involve integrating the SIC database and transferring existing data across- @MKIM1008 and I can work on latter.

NLUD to SIC classification. These top tier divisions the same as for the United nations ISIC system https://unstats.un.org/unsd/publication/seriesm/seriesm_4rev4e.pdf

Current top tier CCRP land use classifications based on NLUD Mixed Use Single use: Residential (unverified) Residential (verified) Retail Industry & Business Community Services Recreation & Leisure Transport Utilities & Infrastructure Defence Agriculture Minerals Vacant & Derelict Unclassified, presumed non-residential

Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities F. Construction - of infrastructure /buildings G. Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

Changes required:

  1. Residential (SIC code n/a). Stays the same
  2. Retail and wholesale trade (SIC codes G). Change name only from 'Retail'
  3. Spilt 'Industry and Business' into NEW Offices, labs, studios, legal chambers (SIC codes K (financial and insurance activities), L (Real estate activities) , M (professional scientific and technical activities, N (admin and support services) NEW Manufacturing on/off site' (SIC codes C= manufacturing plus F=,'Construction')
  4. REMOVE 'Community Services' and split out education, health and gov admin buildings ADD NEW Education (SIC codes P) ADD NEW Health and care (SIC codes Q)
  5. Arts, entertainment and recreation (SIC codes R)_change name only from 'Recreation & Leisure'
  6. NEW Bars ,restaurants and accommodation (SIC codes I) (add OSM data for London for these)
  7. MERGE 'Defence' with government buildings from Community services and rename Public administration and defence (SIC codes O)
  8. Transportion - _change name only from 'Transport' (SIC codes H)
  9. Utilities & communications (SIC codes D utilities and J communication ). Change name only from 'Utilities and infrastructure'
  10. 'Agriculture' change name only to Agriculture, forestry and fishing (SIC codes A)
  11. 'Minerals' change name only to Mining and quarrying (SIC codes B)
  12. ADD NEW Other (SIC codes S,T,U)
  13. 'Vacant & Derelict' (SIC codes n/a)
  14. 'Unclassified, presumed non-residential' (SIC codes n/a)

@MKIM1008 when you have time could you download all the ISIC codes and compare them against the UK SIC codes so we can look at all the ones that differ many thanks

SIC codes = A SIC code stands for Standard Industrial Classification code and classifies your business activity at Companies House. SIC code for a company can be changed at any time and be amended when you file your next Confirmation Statement. https://resources.companieshouse.gov.uk/sic/
