Live to-do list @mz8i last updated Nov 30th 2020

General UI improvement issues relevant to all categories :

Work package 1

1.- [ ] Add Colouring Cities logo ( on current landing page will send via email). Let's try it next to the Colouring London Logo ( make this slightly smaller than it is now and leave slight gap between them so they can be read separately

2.- [ ] Add Alan turing Institute logo - will send via email. Position above existing logos on landing page and centre, keep same size as others

3.- [ ] Replace current landing page text with as follows- keeping existing links on 'open code' (to github) and 'open licence' terms (to Tom's licence page):

'Welcome to Colouring London! Colouring London is a free, knowledge exchange platform designed to provide over fifty types of open data on London buildings, to help make the city more sustainable.

Colouring London is also the prototype for the Colouring Cities Research programme based at the Alan Turing Institute (the UK's national Institute for data science and artificial intelligence). The programme works with local, regional, national and international partners to develop open platform code also of relevance to other cities. New datasets and features are added all the time. Any help you can give, colouring-in our building maps, and enriching and verifying our open datasets is very much appreciated. All our data, maps and code are free to downloaded, use and share under our open licence terms'.

4.- [ ] Change 'original Use' label on 12 category image back to 'Type' - change category title to type too

    • [ ] Spell check code of conduct for 'behaviour' (currently US spelling)
    • [ ] Change text on 'current us.e to read '93% of properties in UK are dwellings so we have set this as the default colour. Can you help us colour-in all non-residential and mixed use buildings, and verify residential buildings too?
  1. Correct category 12 grid as reading 3x 4 rather than 4 x 3 when i am in edit mode

  2. Activate dynamics section as https://github.com/colouring-london/colouring-london/issues/545

@mz8i Work package 2

1 [ ] Check items on 'age; to-do list https://github.com/colouring-london/colouring-london/issues/607

2 [ ] Make copy tool easier to use. Ideally click 'Copy' and then just click straight onto building (without clicking 'copy selected'. Add hints on how to use and check obvious how to click off 'copy'selected'

3- [ ] Make OS map text on buildings visible

4 [x] Add basic verification button colouring-cities/colouring-core#199 colouring-cities/colouring-core#263

5 [x] Add simple gamification to verification button e.g colour burst on building, thank you with little bust of confetti? We might need to try out a few starting with something v basic

6 [ ] Make confetti bust on map rather than sidebar ( i.e. as initially)

7 [ ] Apply verification to all categories

8 [ ] Make last edit date more visible (particularly relevant to land use as can change very rapidly colouring-cities/colouring-core#269.

9 [ ] Add additional landing page with videos (once made)

Work package 3

1 [ ] Update baseline polygons to 2020

2 [ ] Make data more visible by creating wholly black background but retain streetnames (and possibly plot outlines) as colouring-cities/colouring-core#615

i) OS open map local UK streets and block data https://osdatahub.os.uk/downloads/open/OpenMapLocal ii) INSPIRE open UK land registry land parcels - needed for resilience analysis https://www.gov.uk/guidance/inspire-index-polygons-spatial-data iii) Environment agency open UK LIDAR data- https://data.gov.uk/dataset/80c522cc-e0bf-4466-8409-57a04c456197/lidar-composite-dsm-2017-1m iv) https://data.gov.uk/dataset/3f2cc40a-2547-4cc2-9f12-0c9de9fe581e/openstreetmap or https://planet.openstreetmap.org/

MZ has suggested making it easier for PH to change text etc. This will also allow non tech team members in Colouring Cities (CC) programmes generally to begin to become more involved in the technical side of the platform where it is reproduced. This is also v important for advancing our cross disciplinary/citizen work - e.g helping engage historians, designers working in the core CC teams in the main design and to build up their skills.

  1. [ ] Allow non-tech team to change colours/main text easily as suggested by MZ including category names
  2. [ ] If category name changed to automatically change name in edit bar dropdowns too
  3. [ ] Allow non-tech to easily add inactive subcategory boxes and to possible reorder subcat order
  4. [ ] Integrate Land Registry open cadastral parcels

Discussion

Look at how layers could be added in future as optional features e.g early road networks, amazing historical aerial photography possible accessible in discussion with HE etc ' borough outline' colouring-cities/colouring-core#233 Building numbers colouring-cities/colouring-core#506 Discuss issue of showing dropdown options in viewmode colouring-cities/colouring-core#601 Plot lines /INSPIRE colouring-cities/colouring-core#240 Images of each building#192 Check colours for colour blind users colouring-cities/colouring-core#183

@polly64 I transferred most of the tasks here, apart from the Discussion section, into the newly created project boards: the Content / UI tweaks board, and the Improving content management board
