We should also verify the drop is OK to use in derived works - IIRC there was a kerfuffle years back with either the Ruby or the Rails logo and reuse
@al2o3cr Good point. Looking into that right now.
Based on this thread it was up in the air until the trademark stuff was completed, but there has been no update made since Mid-2018 and I don't see anything listed on Plataformatec's site. I have pinged the thread to hopefully get feedback on any updates.
It has been confirmed by Jose Valim that they are STILL messing with the trademark process over the Elixir logo so we will NOT be using it going forward to avoid any issues that could come up. To this point, we have not had any issues and we would like to keep it that way.
Up to this point, we have just used the Elixir drop along with the text as our "logo". We would love to get a logo design specific for our group. Do you have design skills? Want to contribute to the group and show off your stuff? We'd love for you to submit a design idea for a group logo.
The design below was something that was thrown together to get the site up and running back in Feb2018. We should NOT use the Elixir drop in the logo. We could use something that still lets visitors know that this is about the Elixir language and developers.
Proposed usage of logo
Please keep in mind that this logo and any of its variants could be used in the application types below:
You can submit ideas to Brian Crosby in our Slack team (link on our site) or email them to columbuselixir@gmail.com and once they are all collected we will get a vote from the community on what everyone likes. Please ping with questions.
