Hello @comio.

I was wondering why you removed plex-media-player from your overlay. I've been happily using it for years.

If you don't wish to main that package anymore, perhaps you should remove it from the packages section in README.md ?

Plex [media-tv/plex-media-server, media-tv/plex-media-player, media-tv/tautulli]

Plex is a service that allows convenient access to central media over a variety of devices. Plex Media Player is a new desktop client for Plex that includes a nice ten-foot interface and is designed for connecting to the television. Note: Plex Pass users can add the "~amd64" or "~x86" keywords to the packages to get the latest Plex Pass versions.

I see now that Plex has archived plex-media-player. They now have Plex for Linux and Plex HTPC (for Linux Home Theater PCs), but they are only available as flatpak and snap.

Some maintainers from Arch have extracted the files from the containers and created their own packages. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/plex-desktop https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/plex-htpc

Would it be possible that you can do that same for this overlay? If not, i would also love if you re-added the plex-media-player to this overlay, and just masked it, so it can still be installed. The web player is terrible and not much of an option for low end devices.

I'm sorry, but I don't use the plex-media-player anymore. I will give a look to Arch builds.

"@Bobyl same issue is present in X11. Running plex-desktop crashes (somewhat randomly) with that exact segfault, running the flatpak version behaves correctly"

I suggest you to install sys-apps/flatpak.

lupusbytes commented 1 year ago

It's a workaround, but I personally don't want to install snap or flatpak.

comio commented 1 year ago

I tried yesterday but I have a crash... it's hard to match the libraries.

By the way, you didn't remove all the plex-media-player references from the README.md, it still says.
