I developed the model selection "loop" code for HER.
Preliminary results suggest that the most complicated model is the "best" by AIC. This may be a bug and needs to be explored further.
Other topics that need to be resolved in the model selection process include:
[ ] AIC, AICc, and other information criteria
[ ] inclusion of time blocks for maturity
[ ] alternative for cubic spline for M
[ ] conditioning on catch vs. effort
