Thanks for the idea! For information present in EXIF, we generally prefer to leave the task to server-side bots, as they know better. We already don't have enough volunteers to correctly maintain our core features(meaning features where doing it on mobile has a big advantage compared to doing it via bots or desktop). What do you think? :-)
What is the user problem or growth opportunity you want to see solved?
I generally add a line like
|Other fields={{taken with|Google Pixel XL|+}}
to the{{Information}}
template in my uploads. It adds the file to a category likeTaken with Google Pixel XL
, and adds a little widget to the info box saying the same thing.How do you know that this problem exists today? Why is this important?
Most images uploaded with mobile don't add this information. It's helpful technical info, and it would be, I think, easy to implement.
Who will benefit from it?
Uploaders who currently set this information wouldn't have to, and uploaders who don't would have more richly annotated uploads.
Anything else you would like to add?
I understand that some model strings don't map to existing categories. I think that would have to be dealt with, or some kind of resolution system would have to be infined, hopefully drawing on the existence of redirect categories.
