Tell us about the community that you are nominating

The community is the Metaweb community who are developing the next level of the web, which is literally enabling people, information, and computation to have presence above the web page.

What public goods does this community support or will they support in the future?

Decentralized public space above the web page AND a universal knowledge graph that connects the world's information. We have working prototypes for both of these that need to be connected to the blockchain.

Who are the people, DAOs and other organizations already part of this community?

The principals are Daveed Benjamin, Phahsa Ras, and Orne Bey. The organizations are: Presence DAO, Presence Labs, DAOcubator, Bridgit DAO, 4th Ave, Excellerent Technology Solutions, Umi, Crown Share, DPTR, The Forbes Funds

Why do you think this community needs a Commons?

  1. The world's web users need decentralized public space where they can safely express, connect, and earn rewards for the value they create in the ecosystem. Web 1.0 sites don't allow people to meet. Social media is full of fake accounts, trolls, and scammers. Rather than having some destination site, we think the best place for public space is above every web page.
  2. The world's web users also need access to context for claims on the web so they can discern what is likely to be false information or a scam on the web. Because commercial sites avoid outbound links, it is difficult for people to figure out what is real vs. fake. This is an imperative for a democratic future.

What other resources do you have that will make your Commons deployment a success?

We have been working on it for over a year with a team of over 20. A collaboration of 3 companies formed the Presence DAO, and we got $10k funding for the DAO from DAOcubator. We expect that startups in the annotation space will support the projects, as well as DAOs that want to expand their reach to the relevant web. We expect more support from the NEAR ecosystem. We are also going to reach out to other blockchain ecosystems such as Harmony and others about collaboration. Beyond that, we have a close network of 7-10 organizations that are excited about bringing the project to their extended network of over 7000 companies and organizations.
