Tell us about the community that you are nominating
I'm nominating the free culture entertainment community. Like open source software, free and open culture develops public commons. There is a lot of potential for a fan and creator driven entertainment commons, with properties licensed under Creative Commons licenses.
What public goods does this community support or will they support in the future?
Free cultural entertainment projects. The space has been small, but in the past a number of tabletop rpgs, games, comics, and free art and character designs have been released.
Who are the people, DAOs and other organizations already part of this community?
myself, Kim Holm, David Revoy, the Blender Foundation, Creative Commons, Open Game Art, and many others.
Why do you think this community needs a Commons?
A number of creators have been creating in isolation, but the space lacks direction and has a hard time attracting more contributors with little to no financial incentive, and few communities for fans to engage with creators and the space at large.
What other resources do you have that will make your Commons deployment a success?
Little to no funds, but I have spoken to several other folks committed to free culture about the potential to create a DAO. Even if the time is not right for this space to be elected as the winner of the Commons Prize, I aim to realize this as a web3 commons in the future, and would appreciate the consultation your consideration may provide.
