Do we need releases / version numbers? #6

Packaging Common Search for third-party reuse is not a primary goal. Does this mean we shouldn't have version numbers? Would they help set deadlines or mark milestones?

Milestones names/ids does not necessarily have to be numerical, but it's a more familiar style for most developers. For example with semantic version numbers, it's quite easy to see how much has changed between versions.
